February is the hottest time in the garden at Stonefields, its also the time of the year we entertain in the garden. For this reason I have timed the herbaceous perennial gardens to peak at this time of the year. The yellow, orange and terracotta borders flanking the pool are in full bloom as are the blue borders in the entry gardens. This year sees the addition of a lower red and blue border below the pool featuring penstemons and salvias.
Autumn is my favourite time of the year! I’d love for you to come and experience Stonefields in the glorious Autumn palette of Yellow Orange Red and Crimson. Colour is richly provided by the Maples in the woodland garden, the serpentine Hawthorn hedges, and the Boston Ivy and Crimson Glory Vine that cloak the house. This is the last time to see Stonefields in its final flush of colour before the bareness of winter arrives.
Late September, early October is the grand arrival of Spring at Stonefields, when all the white and black Tulips in the parterre terraces are in full show, along with many coloured tulips planted throughout other parts of the garden. The groupings of Japanese crab apples make a spectacular display of blossom to provide no doubt that sunnier days are here to celebrate.
